Weekly Recap 3/3: SCOTUS Gives Trump an Assist

Weekly Recap

No one is coming to save us. We are a democracy, and that means it will be we the people who vote in November, who will deliver the accountability that Trump deserves.

Once again, the Supreme Court seems perfectly aligned with what Trump wants, namely, to delay all of his trials, until he can become president and make them go away again. First they waited two weeks to make any kind of announcement and then they decided that they would actually hear the immunity case but not for another two months. Trump got the delay he was looking for.

I can’t tell you what will happen when they do hear the immunity case. This particular court is not one I feel like I can trust very much. Which is why instead of wringing my hands, wondering what might happen, I am going to be spending my time helping to get out the vote in November and encouraging as many people as possible to join me in doing that.

We can beat Trump at the ballot box again if we all turn out, and then all of his delays will mean exactly nothing. Let’s collectively deliver the accountability that man desperately needs to experience.

Good News

Biden‘s campaign has raised more money and has more money on hand than Trump’s campaign.

Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi of New York was sworn into Congress on Wednesday, narrowing the GOP majority to two seats.

An Illinois judge ruled that Donald Trump engaged in insurrection and has barred him from the state’s primary ballot. (The ruling on hold pending an appeal.)

Nikki Haley has ruled out running on the No Labels ticket.

The IRS plans to go after 125,000 high-income earners (people earning more than $1 million a year) who did not file tax returns going back to 2017.

The GOP keeps digging a deeper and deeper hole when it comes to IVF, especially since the Senate Republicans blocked a bill that would’ve protected the IVF procedure.

Not political, but still awesome: The Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx received a staggering $1 billion donation from Dr. Ruth Gottesman, a retired professor, and will offer free tuition to all of its medical students going forward.

Call to Action

I have profiled many organizations that you can get involved in to help get out the vote but it’s been a while since I recommended looking into Red Wine and Blue. I hope you’ll take a moment to check them out.
