Weekly Recap 1/27: New Hampshire in the Bag

Looking back over this week, there really was a lot of big news. Catch up on it all in my favorite way — through good news and cartoons!

Good News

A jury just awarded E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million in damages in her second defamation trial against Trump.

The United Auto Workers union endorsed Joe Biden this week.

After many legal challenges, Louisiana finally has a new congressional map, now with a second majority-Black district.

The media narrative has shifted about the presidential election and has become much more favorable to Joe Biden. Americans are feeling better about the economy, Trump hasn’t had as strong a showing in the early primary states as expected, and Trump mixing up Nancy Pelosi with Nikki Haley has gotten a TON of media attention.

Both the Dow and the S&P 500 hit record highs this week.

Although Trump won a majority of the Republican primary vote in New Hampshire, 65% of independent voters voted for Haley, exposing a weakness Trump has.

The DC Circuit Court of Appeals declined to rehear Trump’s appeal of the gag order that Judge Chutkan entered in his DC election interference case.

The liberal activist group MoveOn will spend more than $32 million this year to back President Biden and Democratic candidates for the House and Senate.

Biden traveled to Wisconsin to promote a $1 billion infrastructure project, contrasting his performance with Trump’s inability to do anything about infrastructure.

Trump’s former advisor Peter Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison for being in contempt of Congress when he defied a subpoena from the January 6th Committee.

And finally, Ron DeSantis dropped out of the presidential race. A few days later, and in related news, Florida Republicans dropped a plan to use taxpayer money to help pay for Trump’s many legal battles after DeSantis threatened to veto the legislation.

Call to Action

Here’s a terrific opportunity to get involved in making sure the swing states vote blue in November, courtesy of one of my favorite action newsletters, Chop Wood Carry Water:

Postcard to Swing State’s postcard program is getting ready to launch (they’re planning to get 25.7 million postcards delivered to voters!) and my request is that you sign up for one of their Zoom calls to learn all about this effort. You can tap into one Zoom call, right? Sure you can! Go to THIS LINK and sign up for a session that works for your schedule! Thank you.
