Call to Action

When was the last time you called your Congressperson or Senator to tell them how you feel about a bill they’re considering? How about your local state legislator? The news of Nebraska state senator Machaela Cavanaugh’s 3+ week long filibuster of that legislature to prevent an anti-trans bill from proceeding has captivated so many people and they’ve come out in droves to support her.

What could your local legislator do to make sure your values are heard? The first thing is, you need to know how to contact them. Start by going to Open States to get the names and contact info for your legislators. Put that into your phone. Then, anytime you see a bill being discussed in your local paper/TV station, you can call or email to let them know what you want. Your voice can encourage them to resist terrible policies, or even propose better legislation!
