McConnell Doesn’t Have the Votes: Time to Act

Mitch McConnell might not have enough votes to block witnesses from appearing in the impeachment trial?

That’s right. Both the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post reported that last night. McConnell held a caucus meeting last night and let everyone know they didn’t have the votes. Yet.

That’s where we come in. We don’t rest until the votes are taken, so we’ve got some work to do.

Now that Trump’s counsel has finished their arguments, the Senate will have two days devoted to Senators asking the House managers and/or Trump’s counsel questions. We can expect the first votes on motions–like to request certain witnesses to appear–to happen on Friday. We’ve got less than 48 hours to put more pressure on Republican Senators than McConnell can.

If you have Republican Senators (or Democratic Senators who you’re not sure will vote for witnesses), call them and say this:

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [ZIP]. I’m calling to ask that the Senator vote in favor of calling key witnesses like John Bolton in the impeachment trial of Donald Trump. Can I count on the Senator to commit to a complete and comprehensive impeachment trial? Thank you for your time and attention.

If you have Democratic Senators who you’ve already called and you know will FOR SURE vote for witnesses, spend your time encouraging your friends and social media followers in other states to call their Senators!

We don’t have much time to get this done. In less than 48 hours, the Senate will be voting. Getting even one witness could completely change the dynamics of the trial, and McConnell knows that.

Let’s go!
