The impeachment trial of a president is likely one of the more rare and important events that will happen in our lives. But that doesn’t mean we all get off of work. So how can you quickly catch up on the proceedings of the day?
I have this same issue, so I’ve been scouring the internet for some good sources. Here are my recommendations:
Politico’s live blog – The livestream of the proceedings is at the top of the page, so you can always check in if you’re able to. Otherwise, they’ve been updating the blog with short paragraphs of the latest twists and turns.
NPR – They also have a livestream but for those of you who have to wait until you get home from work to check on the day’s news, NPR is posting recaps. The one for yesterday is here: Trump Impeachment Trial Recap: Republicans Balk At McConnell Over Session Rules
Political Wire – As regular readers of my blog know, Political Wire is a favorite resource of mine. They post short summaries of articles being written throughout the day, and most of them are impeachment related. You can keep up with the latest news by reading the summaries, or get more information by clicking through to the full article.
Senate Cloakroom – This is a Twitter account that only tweets when votes are about to happen, and again when the final vote is in. It is the best place to keep up with the flurry of resolutions and motions that are flying around throughout the impeachment trial.
Video Clips – Clicking this will take you to the Twitter account of Acyn Torabi who basically posts short clips of news videos all day. It’s a quick way to get a taste of what’s happening.
Lawfare – The legal minds at Lawfare have started an impeachment podcast series that will summarize the previous day’s proceedings. Clicking the link will take you to the full list of episodes. A great way to catch up during your morning workout or commute.

I would also add @Heather Cox Richardson’s posts on Facebook. She is a political scientist at Boston College and not only summarizes the days news (and has been for months) she also brings in outside information and perspectives that help make sense of everything. She’s had a couple of excellent posts on how liberals and conservatives came to be… well worth reading each day!
