Sunday Reading: Pondering What If?

Every week I come across articles that I find interesting and that I think my readers here at Political⚡Charge might enjoy as well. Here are this week’s recommendations.

How Hong Kong got to this point

This is a helpful article from Brookings about the current situation in Hong Kong, and what it might take to end the conflict.

What Happens if Trump Won’t Step Down?

Trump injects quips about how he might want a third term which of course makes folks worry about what he would do if he loses in 2020. This is a discussion with Josh Geltzer, a Georgetown Law professor and former senior director for counterterrorism at the National Security Council. He walks through that possibility and the four institutions that could provide a check to that danger.

Don’t vote? The Trump campaign would like a word with you

It’s helpful to know how the other side is preparing for battle. This article walks through the Trump campaign and the Republican party’s effort to register the non-voters of 2016 ahead of the 2020 election. Essentially, instead of working to scoop up voters that are skeptical of Trump, they’re making the calculus to stay way over on the right and try to convert people over there.
