This week, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments about Texas’ case about racial discrimination in how the congressional and state legislative districts were drawn in 2010. This case is one of several in front of the Supreme Court regarding redistricting, and the outcome of these cases will greatly affect how the 2020 redistricting process will unfold.
Supreme Court reporters indicated that the justices seem split 4-4 which means that all eyes are on Justice Kennedy as the swing vote.
Do read Stephen Wolf’s full article with more details about the case, at this week’s Voting Rights Roundup, at Daily Kos.
In addition to what’s happening in Texas, there was also voting rights news out of:
Arkansas
Indiana
New Hampshire
Florida
Illinois
U.S. Territories
For regular updates on Voting Rights, I’d recommend following Stephen Wolf’s columns at Daily Kos, and the Brennan Center.
