Hats off to a reader who tipped me off to this great story:
Kim Sheets won a special election for auditor, a position involved in elections, in Warren County, Iowa this week. She defeated the Republican by a 2 to 1 margin. The position had become vacant after the longtime auditor, a Democrat, had resigned earlier in the year. The Republican-dominated county supervisors controversially appointed a Republican in her place. The Democrats claimed the appointee was unqualified and pointed to him sharing online conspiracy theories including about the 2020 election. The Dems had to force a special election and get the necessary amount of signatures within two weeks after the appointment. Which they did! And then local Democrats kept going and turned out the vote! Congratulations to all the Democratic officials and voters for staying on top of this important local position.
Call to Action
What’s the best way to get voters ready to vote in 2024? By mobilizing them to vote in 2023! Many states have elections in November of THIS year, and a few have BIG elections like Virginia. Virginia is electing all of their state legislature, and Swing Left is making it easy for any of us to get involved.
Check out THIS LINK for 4 different ways you can help turn out Virginia voters this fall.
