Anyone Hungry for Some Good News?

good news

It’s been a little while since I did a good news post and news of war has a tendency to obscure everything else going on so … let’s jump into some good news!! This is the kind of political news that tends to get buried but I think should get amplified.

The Senate voted e to confirm Shalanda Young as director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, making her the first Black woman to hold the position.

Congress reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act, after Republicans had let it lapse under the Trump administration.

Pamela Moses, who had been sentenced to 6 years in prison for trying to register to vote, was granted her request for a new trial by a judge. She’s out of prison!

Marjorie Taylor Greene lost her lawsuit against Speaker Nancy Pelosi regarding the House’s mask policy; MTG has reported paid at least $100,000 in fines for refusing to wear her mask.

A judge denied Fox News’ motion to dismiss Smartmatic’s $2.7B defamation lawsuit.

Supreme Court denies Republican requests to block court-approved congressional maps in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

The BBC reported yesterday that there has been a “steady stream” of resignations from Russia’s tightly controlled state-run TV channel.

The North Carolina attorney general’s office has asked the State Bureau of Investigations to look into former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows’ voter registration in North Carolina. Meadows is registered to vote at an address where he doesn’t live.

Congress finally passed the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act.

Last week, a Texas judge ordered a statewide halt to a directive from Republican Gov. Greg Abbott that called for abuse investigations into the use of gender-affirming care for transgender children, handing a major victory to civil rights organizations that sued to block the order this month.

Biden’s approval numbers jumped up by 8 points the week of March 4th.

U.S. job growth is surging and unemployment dropped to just 3.8%.

In the Texas primaries, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), who admitted years ago that he knew that he was regarded as the “dumbest member of Congress,” placed 4th in his election bid to become Texas’ attorney general. So, he’s out of Congress at the end of this session!

  1. Your rag is the one ray of sunshine in an otherwise dreary political world. Thank you.

  2. Thank you for taking the time to share good news. I don’t watch TV so sometimes I miss the good stuff, like passage of the Violence Against Women Act, the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act and the defeat of Gohmert in TX where he was running for AG.

  3. Thanks for the list of good news items.

  4. This Texan loves to see Abbott and Gohmert getting it stuck to them. Serves ’em right.
