I think it’s time for a good news post!
And by good news, I mean good things that are happening thanks to the Democrats being in charge (and also Republicans facing consequences.) So here you go — some of the good news items I’ve seen from this past 2 weeks:
Seven states have achieved a vaccination rate of over 85% (Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Mexico, New Jersey and Pennsylvania) and Hawaii has vaccinated 90% of its residents
The U.S. Supreme Court declined to block a vaccine requirement imposed on Maine health care workers
The Biden administration announced that it would accelerate passing regulations to limit the spread of several toxic “forever chemicals” that have made their way to our drinking water and food supply
Two high profile bills did NOT pass in Texas’ special session — an election audit bill Trump wanted, and a ban on vaccine mandates for private businesses
Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) was indicted for allegedly concealing information and lying to the FBI regarding an investigation into illegal campaign contributions
The January 6th Committee voted to refer Steve Bannon for contempt, and the House voted 229-202 to hold Bannon in contempt of Congress. 9 Republicans crossed the aisle to vote with the Democrats
Nearly a year after offering up a hefty bounty for evidence of voter fraud, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) has handed out his first reward to… a progressive poll worker in Pennsylvania whose tip led to a single conviction of illegal voting by a registered Republican
The White House has purchased enough doses of the vaccine to innoculate all children from 5-11 and has a roll-out plan ready as soon as the FDA gives its approval
An Army reservist who participated in the January 6th riots was demoted and then discharged, the first known service member to be forced out
Trump Org is facing a new criminal investigation from a different prosecutor regarding their financial dealings at a golf course in Ossining
Trump’s new “free speech” social media platform bans criticism of the site and … got hacked immediately
Matt Gaetz posted a $100k net LOSS in fundraising in the 3rd quarter
Judge Tanya Chutkan has repeatedly sentenced January 6th rioters to MORE prison time than prosecutors sought
The Department of Homeland Security ordered ICE to stop mass raids on immigrants’ workplaces
DOJ has asked the Supreme Court to block the Texas abortion law while the normal legal processes continue, and the Supreme Court has said they will review it
President Biden’s task force has now reunited 52 families separated under Trump
The Democrats raised $13M more than the Republicans for House races in the 3rd quarter (July, August, September)

Thank you so much for a happy way to start the weekend. I laughed at the bounty for voter fraud going to someone who found fraud by a Republican. Karma, baby!
I found that pretty funny, if totally unsurprising.
Tokyo, I am glad to see the harsher sentencing on the January 6 insurrection. We simply cannot have people storming a branch of government, full stop. I also called my Republican congressman and House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy as well, beseeching them to vote to hold Steve Bannon in criminal contempt for ignoring a subpoena to appear before Congress. Regardless of party, we cannot have people who thumb their nose at Congressional subpoenas. What would prevent a CEO from saying no thank you. when subpoened. Also, McCarthy’s ridiculous excuse of executive privilege for Bannon does not hold water, as he had been out of the White House for over two years. Keith
