You don’t want to lose control of the House of Representatives, do you?
I sure don’t. And I don’t mean in the midterm elections in the fall of 2022. I mean this year.
Democrats currently have a slim 220-211 majority, with 4 vacant seats. Here is a snapshot into these upcoming elections.
Louisiana 2nd District
Cedric Richmond (D) joined the Biden administration to be the director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. Troy Carter and Karen Peterson, both Democrats, won the jungle primary to proceed to the general election, which will be held on April 24th. Texas 6th District
Ronald Wright (R) passed away from COVID19. The general election is scheduled for May 1, with early voting starting on April 19. Wright won the seat last year with 53% of the vote — this district is considered a battleground district. You can read more about the many candidates running and the election HERE.

New Mexico 1st District
Debra Haaland (D) joined the Biden administration as the Secretary of the Interior. The general election is scheduled for June 1, with early voting starting on May 4. The Democratic candidate running for this seat is Melanie Ann Stansbury. Her campaign website, where you can sign up to volunteer, get updates, or donate is HERE.

Ohio 11th District
Marcia Fudge (D) joined the Biden administration as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. The primary is scheduled for August 3 and the general election will be held November 2. There is a long list of Democrats running in the primary, which you can find HERE.
Ohio 15th District
Steve Stivers (R) resigned to lead the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. The primary is scheduled for August 3 and the general election will be held November 2. There is a long list of candidates running in the primary, which you can find HERE.
Florida 20th District
Alcee Hastings (D) died on April 6. Primaries are scheduled for November 2 and the general election will be held January 11, 2022. Ballotpedia has the latest list of candidates running HERE.
How to help
First, adopt one of these special elections. Then, if you live in or near the district, check out 15 Ways to Help a Campaign Win Their Election.
If you are farther away, you can follow candidates on social media and share information about their campaigns on your accounts, and you can donate to their campaigns. You might consider signing up as a volunteer at their campaign websites as they often have tasks that supporters can do from afar. And finally, keep an eye out for postcarding campaigns to help these elections at sites like Postcards for Voters and Sister District.

Tokyo, given the conspiracy theories, lies and fear that are foundations of the current Republican party, if that party took over the House, we would be in for a bumpy ride of endless BS discussion rather than an attempt at governance. As a former Republican who left the party before the trumpism, I have never seen a political party fall so low in esteem. And, the party has itself to blame – gerrymandering, restrictive voter laws and trumpism. Keith
