The Week’s Best Cartoons: Trump’s Goons

By Lalo Alcaraz

There was a lot of news this week, but none bigger than Trump sending in unidentified federal agents to kidnap and harass citizens exercising their constitutional right to protest. The Portland Black Lives Matter protests have been going on for 50+ days now.

The nation’s great editorial cartoonists captured the moment like no one else can. Here are the best cartoons I found this week.

Awesome political cartoons this week from TOKYOSAND!

  2. Thanks! We’ve never been closer to a Fascist Coup. Even Lucky Lindy in his Atlantic Spanning Flight, nor
Henry Ford in his Krupp fascination could not have hoped for something like Trump-Barr. I expect “My Struggle” to be the next book by a Trump, DJT himself, ghost written by the same script authors who give him the stuff to read at his latest “Covid Splanations.” This SOB must be defeated by an overwhelming landslide. But there is a surprising number of ‘Freedumb-lovin’ ‘Mericans’ who, I almost said “think,” but they haven’t so sophisticated an ability, will be happy to see this Republic go down in ashes.

  3. Perusing this week’s magnificent collection of political cartoons is not eliciting any smiles, but rather the sobering reality of what America is falling to at the hands of trump and his merry band of enablers. This to me is not how to “Make America Great Again”. Then again, that may be dependent upon one’s understanding of what defines great. Apparently, on this trump and I disagree! A favorite cartoon is the Pat Bagley “Mom”, I hope that I would be that brave! Thank-you!

    • I love the word “peruse.” As for bravery, there’s more bravery in numbers. I’ve got friends that have joined the Wall of Moms up in Portland. They were nervous to go, but once they met up with the others, they felt welcomed and accepted. The bonds happen fast.

      • A friend’s sister and her daughter live in Albany, which I think is not too far from Portland, and they have joined the Wall of Moms too. Which is why that particular cartoon is my favorite. I just learned this afternoon that a Wall of Vets has recently joined them which provides some protection. Thank-you!

      • It’s true, there was indeed a wall of vets. A friend of mine was one of them. Also heard that there was additional groups that joined the protest, like healthcare workers who wore blue. Amazing what a little organizing will do!

  4. When the news of John Lewis’s passing fell on Nelson Mandela Day last Sunday, I looked for a protest nearby; seeing none, I organized this: https://www.facebook.com/events/707392186487237/

There are many things wrong in this nation this week, but none so WRONG as the invasion of Portland and now Seattle by Trump’s forces. This week’s round of cartoons by our friend TokyoSand covers it well. Thank you, TS!

    • Thanks, Jill. I thought the cartoonists did SUCH a good job bringing clarity to this situation. Appreciate you helping to bring more eyeballs onto what’s happening here in my state!
