The Week’s Best Cartoons 6/13

By Lalo Alcaraz

Editorial cartoonists appear to be one of the last groups of people who speak out and say exactly what’s happening. They reveal what’s really going on behind all the pomp and circumstance in front of cameras and reporters, and entertain us along the way. Although to be clear, they’re not necessarily “funny.” Especially this week.

Here are our great editorial cartoonists on what they saw in the news this week.

  1. I read something quite some time ago that relates to your opening paragraph. “If a cartoon is not making you laugh, then it will surely make you think. One way or the other the cartoonists will trigger an emotion in you.” – Unknown. Today’s selections are not eliciting joyous laughs, though some do bring a smile or two, but all of them make one think. If I were able to take one of these selected cartoons and make it into a framed print, it would be Pat Bagley’s “We the People”. Thank-you!

    • Thank you, Ellen. Yes, I’ve long admired the power of editorial cartoons. I’m glad you liked the Bagley piece — more so than ever, I appreciate the uplifting cartoons.

  2. Reblogged this on Filosofa's Word and commented:
I had a serious piece lined up for today … a re-blog … a dark, but important piece. But, I changed my mind when I woke with a dark cloud over my head this morning, and decided to go with TokyoSand’s excellent selection of political cartoons from the past week instead. As always, thank you T.S.!
