Here are the GOP Senate Seats to Flip in 2020

Do you want the blue wave to wash over the Senate in 2020 and flip it to the Democrats?

I do! I want the Senate so badly. Not only to stop the tidal wave of unqualified, conservative judges from getting confirmed, but also so the Senate can start legislating again. If we had the Senate right now none of these amazing bills passed by the House would be collecting dust.

Last week we looked at the Senate seats that the Democrats need to protect. Today, let’s look at the Senate seats that are currently held by Republicans that are up for re-election in 2020. Clicking on the challenger’s names will take you to their campaign website where you can sign up for updates, donate, or volunteer.

Note: Until there is one final nominee, there is a lot of fluidity in the candidates for these races, so I have included a link to Ballotpedia’s page where you can see a full list of declared candidates.

Most Flippable

Arizona – Martha McSally is currently serving as senator after being appointed by the governor. The 2020 election is technically a special election to elect someone to serve out the remainder of John McCain’s term. The Democrats have a strong candidate in Mark Kelly, a former astronaut and Gabby Gifford’s husband. (Twitter: @ShuttleCDRKelly)

Colorado – Cory Gardner is one of the most endangered senators today. There are currently eight Democrats running in the primary. You can see their names HERE.

Maine – Susan Collins currently has four Democratic challengers, the most prominent being Sara Gideon, who is currently in the Maine state House serving as the Speaker of the House. Check back HERE to see the full list of challengers.

Competitive (Lean or Likely Republican)

Georgia – David Perdue currently has eight Democratic challengers, a list of which you can see HERE.

Georgia (special) – Georgia’s governor appointed Kelly Loeffler to this Senate seat when Johnny Isakson resigned due to his health. The special election in November will determine who serves the final two years of Isakson’s term. There are multiple challengers, who you can see HERE.

Iowa – Joni Ernst currently has five Democratic challengers, who you can see HERE.

Kansas – Pat Roberts announced earlier this year that he is not running for re-election, so this will be an open seat. Three Democrats have filed to run in this election so far, and you see the most updated list HERE.

Kentucky – Mitch McConnell, yes the Senate Majority Leader, is up for re-election. Currently, there are eight Democratic challengers who you can see HERE.

North Carolina – Thom Tillis currently has five Democratic challengers who you can see HERE.

Texas – John Cornyn has a whopping 12 Democratic challengers including MJ Hegar (Twitter: @mjhegar) and Sema Hernandez (Twitter: @_SemaHernandez_). Check HERE for a full list of Democratic challengers in the primary.

Very Red Seats

Alaska – Dan Sullivan is the incumbent. No Democrats have filed to run in this election yet, but when they do, you will be able to find their names HERE.

Arkansas – Tom Cotton does not have a Democratic challenger for this election. (There is some controversy about that, which you can read HERE.)

Idaho – Jim Risch currently has three Democratic challengers, including Nancy Harris. The full list is HERE.

Louisiana – Bill Cassidy is the incumbent. Antoine Pierce is the Democratic primary challenger.

Mississippi – Cindy Hyde-Smith is the incumbent. 1 Democrat has filed to run in this election so far and you will be able to find additional names as they file HERE.

Montana – Steve Daines has four Democratic challengers, including Helena Mayor Wilmot Collins. (Twitter: @CollinsWilmot) Check HERE for the full list primary challengers.

Nebraska – Ben Sasse is the incumbent. Three Democrats have filed to run in this election and you can find their names HERE.

Oklahoma – Jim Inhofe is the incumbent. Four Democrats have filed to run in this election so far and you can find their names HERE.

South Carolina – Lindsey Graham currently has four Democratic challengers including Jaime Harrison. (Twitter: @harrisonjaime) A full list of primary challengers can be found HERE.

South Dakota – Mike Rounds is the incumbent. Two Democrats have filed to run in this election, and you can see their names HERE.

Tennessee – Lamar Alexander announced late last year that he is not running for re-election, so this will be an open seat. Check HERE for a full list of primary challengers.

West Virginia – Shelley Moore Capito is the incumbent. Two Democrats have filed to run in this election so far and as more candidates file, their names will be available HERE.

Wyoming – Mike Enzi announced last month that he is not running for re-election, so this will be an open seat. One Democrat has filed to run in this election so far and as more candidates file, their names will be available HERE.
