This is a Podcast You Don’t Want to Miss

I love podcasts but my commute to work is so short (don’t hate me), I don’t get to listen to them as much as I’d like to. So, I’m pretty selective.

When I’m in the mood for politics, I find myself turning to Two Broads Talking Politics a lot. It’s not just that they have great guests–they absolutely do, as you’ll see–but it’s the way the hosts, Kelly and Sophy, approach every subject. They’re genuinely interested in every person and topic they cover.

Even when covering fairly intense issues, they bring a warmth and sense of calm that I really appreciate. There’s a fair amount of outrage in the world, on social media, and on the airwaves, which is decidedly just, but it’s hard to take 24/7. This podcast allows you to get to know what’s happening in the political scene but without all the drama.

On top of that, they have just been rocking and rolling recently! They recently got Lizz Winstead, a co-creator of The Daily Show and a co-founder of Abortion Access Front, to talk about the growing issues around abortion. A few weeks ago, they spoke with Amanda Brown Lierman, the Managing Director of new women’s activism organization Supermajority.

They are also tackling presidential candidates. No less than Kirsten Gillibrand and Eric Swalwell have been on the show recently to talk about their campaigns and stances on issues. They also bring in guests to talk about the books that the presidential candidates have written, and it feels like you’re sitting in a friend’s living room for book club. They’ve covered books by Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Julian Castro, and Pete Buttigieg so far. Kelly tells me more book club episodes are coming up.

I’ve especially enjoyed the #VoteHerIn episodes, which as you can surmise, is all about the movement to elect our first woman president, and is done in partnership with Rebecca Sive, the author of Vote Her In: Your Guide to Electing Our First Woman President. Kelly gave me permission to let you all know that the next #VoteHerIn episode is an interview with Jan Schakowsky, currently the U.S. Representative for Illinois’ 9th district.

And finally, I’m thrilled that they have been focusing episodes on candidates who are running to challenge Republican Senators in 2020. They’ve had Jamie Harrison, who is running to unseat Lindsey Graham in South Carolina, and Trish Zornio who is challenging Cory Gardner in Colorado.

As you can see, I’m a big fan. I encourage you to give them a try. I know readers have told me that they appreciate that I’m mostly drama-free and so I say with some confidence that you all will like Two Broads Talking Politics. You can click any of the links throughout this article to listen to those episodes, or find them on your favorite podcast app.

  1. I appreciate the suggestion, but I can´t believe how primitive the comments on the podcast are…
