Special Counsel Robert Mueller

At Political⚡Charge, I’m most interested in giving you information and resources to help you be effective with your civic engagement. I prefer looking at subjects like elections, and voting rights, and calls to action—places where we can exert some control and really make a difference with our actions.

I haven’t written much about Robert Mueller and the Russia investigation for exactly that reason—because there was nothing we could control about that.

That said, it is the biggest story of the day and it doesn’t seem quite right to ignore it. Here’s a few of my takeaways:

✦ Anyone calling the letter “a summary of Mueller’s report” is incorrect. The only thing we have is a letter written by the Attorney General who says that he is summarizing Mueller’s report. He might have gotten it right, but we really won’t know until we see the actual report.

✦ I’m not listening to the president or his sycophants. They have proven, over and over, that they are unreliable sources, and therefore, I discount or ignore anything they have to say. I recommend you do the same. Don’t waste any of your energy getting upset with them.

✦ Barr’s letter raises more questions than it answers. He says Mueller determined that Russia did conspire to elect Trump but concludes that Trump’s campaign did not directly conspire with Russia. That flies in the face of so much of what we’ve seen publicly, that we need more information. Similarly, Barr says Mueller did not make a recommendation on obstruction of justice because apparently there was contradictory evidence, well, that just makes the case for why we need the full report released.

If there is a call to action, it is to pressure your two Senators and one Representative to boldly push for the release of the entire report. (Seems like yet another time to say how grateful I am that the Democrats won the House!) Nothing less than full disclosure will be satisfactory.
