Although we all want to see the results of the hotly contested midterms right away, I think we can all agree that we’d prefer that every vote gets counted, right? Here is where 13 of the biggest races stand as of late last night:
Governors
Georgia: Stacey Abrams (D) vs. Brian Kemp (R)
If Brian Kemp’s lead drops below 50% of the vote, it’ll force a runoff election in early December. Abrams’ team is pushing to make sure all ballots are counted, including absentee and provisional ballots. Georgia must certify the results by Tuesday. This is a fast-moving story and lawsuits have been filed. Keep an eye on the news for updates.
Florida: Andrew Gillum (D) vs. Ron DeSantis (R)
This race is currently undergoing a recount, as DeSantis’ lead fell under the 0.5% margin. Gillum continues to ask for every vote to be counted. On Sunday, the supervisor of elections in at least one of Florida’s biggest counties expressed concern that they didn’t have enough time to fully recount every vote before the Thursday deadline. U.S. Senate
Arizona: Kyrsten Sinema (D) vs. Martha McSally (R)
Arizona is still counting votes from Election Day, and as of Sunday afternoon, Sinema’s lead over McSally has grown to 32,640. There are still over 200,000 votes to count in the state, but right now, it is looking good for Sinema.
Florida: Bill Nelson (D) vs. Rick Scott (R)
Like the Florida governor’s race, this Senate race is also currently undergoing a recount. Both Scott and Nelson have filed multiple lawsuits. We can help Nelson’s recount effort by donating here.
U.S. House
CA-10: Josh Harder (D) vs. Jeff Denham (R)
Currently, Harder is leading 90,491 to 87,128.
CA-39: Gil Cisneros (D) vs. Young Kim (R)
Currently, Kim is leading 87,924 to 85,501.
CA-45: Katie Porter (D) vs. Mimi Walters (R)
Currently, Walters is leading 107,132 to 105,123.
CA-48: Harley Rouda (D) vs. Dana Rohrabacher (R)
Currently, Rouda is leading 109,591 to 101,081. Update: The AP called this race for Rouda.
GA-07: Carolyn Bourdeaux (D) vs. Rob Woodall (R)
Currently, Woodall is leading 139,837 to 138,936. On Sunday, Bourdeaux filed a motion in federal court seeking to delay the county from certifying its election results in order to review nearly 1,000 absentee ballots that had previously been rejected.
ME-02: Jared Golden (D) vs. Bruce Poliquin (R)
Currently, Poliquin is leading 131,466 to 129,556. Maine uses a ranked-choice system, meaning that the elections folks are tabulating voters’ 2nd and 3rd choices on the ballot to determine whether Golden or Poliquin wins the race. There were over 13,000 votes cast for the Independent candidates.
NJ-03: Andy Kim (D) vs. Tom MacArthur (R)
Currently, MacArthur is leading 136,408 to 134,093.
UT-04: Ben McAdams (D) vs. Mia Love (R)
Currently, McAdams is leading 108,515 to 103,609.
State-level Secretary of State
Arizona: Katie Hobbs (D) vs. Steve Gaynor (R)
Currently, Gaynor is leading by a hair, 1,058,283 to 1,057,859.

As Shaun King tweeted yesterday, “Did you know that Mike Espy, a Black man running for the United States Senate, actually made it to a runoff in MISSISSIPPI??? And he’s getting no media attention. This man can win!” Runoff for a Senate seat in Mississippi is on November 27, and we *actually* have a shot at winning this one, folks! Let’s lend Espy some of our activist energies.
