Although Election Day isn’t a federal holiday, many states and companies are making sure people have paid time off so they can vote. It’s a step in the right direction!

Vox did a terrific article that lays out which states mandate that employers give their workers time off (over 20 of them!), and so I’m linking that here:

Can you take paid time off work to vote? It may depend where you live.

In addition to the states that are helping citizens vote, there are a lot of companies–both large corporations and very small businesses–that are also offering their employees some sort of paid time off. Some, like Patagonia, is closing all of their stores and headquarters for the entire day. Others offer two hours off as long as you tell the employer ahead of time. If your employer is on this list, call the Human Resources office to get the details. But call right away!!

It’s heartening to see so many people taking steps to make voting a little easier. We have a long way to go, of course, but it’s a start! Vote!
