The 37 States That Offer Early Voting

If you vote early, not only will you have peace of mind, but then you’ll be freed up to help others on Election Day!

And with 37 states (plus DC) offering either Early Voting, All-Mail Voting, or a combo of Early Voting/No Excuse Absentee Voting, many of us have the option to get our voting done ahead of time.

States where early voting is already underway (as of Oct. 15):
Arizona
California
Georgia
Iowa
Indiana
Maine
Minnesota
Montana
Nebraska
New Jersey
North Dakota
Ohio
South Dakota
Vermont
Wisconsin
Wyoming

States where early voting starts between Oct. 16 – 22:
Alaska
Arkansas
Colorado
Idaho
Illinois
Kansas
Massachusetts
Nevada
New Mexico
North Carolina
Oregon
Tennessee
Texas
Washington

States where early voting starts after Oct. 23:
District of Columbia
Florida
Hawaii
Louisiana
Maryland
Oklahoma
Utah
West Virginia

To get the information you need about exactly how early voting works in your state, you can Google your state + “early voting” or click on your state name at this roster of all of the secretaries of state. It’ll take you to your state’s Elections website and you can search for early voting from there.

For a quick overview of how early voting works in your state, the National Conference of State Legislatures has a cool interactive map, and when you hover over your state, the basics of how early voting works pops up. Here’s a static look at that map:

For those of us who can, let’s vote early so we can spend the rest of our time getting out the vote with people who aren’t paying as much attention as we are. Good turnout is key to flipping seats all over the country!
