Did you wake up on November 9th, 2016 thinking about what more you could have done in the days leading up to the election?
A large group of progressive organizations have come together to get the message out that yes, we need to vote, but this year, more than just voting, we should all volunteer too. Their message is to ask people to commit now to volunteering that last weekend before the November 6 midterm election.
The effort is called The Last Weekend.
These are the organizations involved:
You can enter your email at The Last Weekend to commit to volunteering at some point those last few days.
Don’t wait for an email to arrive from them to take action, though. Go to your calendar right now (both at home and at work) and block off those last four days: Saturday, November 3 – Tuesday, November 6. Put holds on your calendar, or whatever you need to do to remind yourself and anyone else who can see your calendar that you are committed to turning out the vote those days.
After all, you have a democracy you need to save.
There are so many ways for you to help build excitement for the Democratic candidates running and to turn out the vote. I am supportive of The Last Weekend effort as I hope it encourages a lot of people to volunteer at least a little before the election.
That said, there’s no need to wait until the last weekend. There’s plenty we can each be doing right now to help our favorite campaigns!
Don’t just vote this year. Volunteer.
