South Dakota Politics Quick Facts
– No Senators are up for re-election in 2018
– The one at-large U.S. House Representative is up for re-election
– Voted +30 for Trump in 2016
– Current partisan breakdown of the state legislature:
State Senate 27 (R) – 8 (D)
State House 58 (R) – 12 (D)
The sitting governor is term-limited and is therefore unable to run for re-election. The Democratic candidate is Billie Sutton. There are also two Republicans and an Independent running.

The Republican primary has been deemed “one to watch” and is rated R+14. One of the issues at the heart of that campaign is how close (or not) the candidate is to Trump. The Democratic candidate is:

All 35 seats in the Senate are up for re-election this year. The Republicans currently have a super-majority. A list of the districts with re-elections and the candidates running for those seats can be found here.
All 70 seats in the House are up for re-election this year. The Republicans built on their super-majority in the 2016 elections. A list of the candidates running for the House can be found here.
